Can you tell us a little about yourself?
Well, my name is Rose Van Buren Leeds. I was born in the Territory of Colorado in 1861. My parents were Dutch immigrants and they owned the local dry goods store. My mother died of influenza when I was sixteen. My father sold our store and we moved to the city of Boise in the Idaho Territory and started a new store. I always wanted to marry a good man and have a large family. My father wanted me to marry a rich man so I would always be taken care of and my children would never know hunger. My father loved me and his intentions were good, but even the best intentions can lead to disaster.
What is your role in the story?
The Angel Gabriel raised me and said someone paid a great price for me to have a second chance at life. In order to have that chance I need to persuade an ambitious politician to not run for the governor’s office. The Angel told me I must show this man my story and use it to teach him where his ambitions will lead.
What is your favorite hobby?
I love to knit. I made all sorts of scarfs and hats. My father sold them in our store.
What is the challenge you’re trying to overcome during the story?
I have to convince a stranger to give up his dream while I’m haunting him and disrupting his life.
If you could make one wish, what would it be?
To see my father again.

A DISTANT PAST
In 1882, Rose Van Buren loved the wrong man and paid for it with her life. Now, more than a century later, the angel Gabriel has granted her another shot at living. In exchange, she must convince a smart, handsome, up-and-coming lawyer to set aside his lofty ambitions.
A FUTURE PRESENT
Stephen Winship is headed straight for the governor’s chair. He has a brilliant career, solid allies, and a seemingly perfect girlfriend. But night after night he finds himself dreaming of a heavenly beauty, a luminous but long-dead girl. Like some altered Ghost of Christmas Past, she shows him her own tragic tale in order to “save him.” And he’s beginning to see Rose is risking her heart as much as baring her soul. Yet falling for her will cost him everything—and open him up to a happiness he never imagined.
Augustina Van Hoven resides in the Pacific Northwest with her husband, two dogs and three cats. She is an avid reader of romance, science fiction and fantasy. When she’s not writing she likes to work in her garden or in the winter months crochet and knit on her knitting machines.
