My name is, Etienne Legendre, I'm a first generation Frenchman born in the city of New Orleans. Men like me are called Creoles. Last year in 1829, I turned twenty-two years. When I was nineteen I spent two years in Paris where I studied at the Sorbonne. At this time my father owns a large shipping business near the river in the city. I still live with my parents in a grand mansion on Rue Esplanade. My life has been a gifted one until now. I am forced to face an evil challenge.
What is your role in the story?
I first met my lovely Lalin Bonheur at the Orleans Ballroom in our great city. I saw her waltzing in circles with another man. I knew I had to have this beauty, the most desirable octoroon in all New Orleans, and fortunately it happened. Arrangements were made with her mother. I became her protector the very next day. She is now my mistress, lover and confidant. My father has helped me to buy her a house and provide her with all her material needs. A legal contract has been made. I take care of her in exchange for her love and loyalty to me.
What is your favorite hobby?
I've studied fencing with the Fencing Masters in our city. There are schools in Exchange Alley here in the French Quarter. A man must learn to duel with rapiers. Sometimes a gentleman will call you to a duel for the slightest insult or remark. You must always be ready to defend your honor or the honor of your mistress, wife, or family member.
What challenge are you trying to overcome?
Ah, what a struggle we have at this time! Our lives have become filled with difficulties. I am an innocent man who has been accused of the most horrible crime. My Lalin and I travel by steamboat along the river to escape and discover how I might prove my innocence.
If you could make one wish, what would you wish for?
My greatest wish would be to clear my name, see my family and enjoy my life with my love, Lalin. We have been pursued by police and vicious loup garou, evil shape-shifters, who roam the region. I pray for times of peace to enjoy life again with my darling Lalin Bonheur.
