Where to begin? First, thanks for having me. My name is Brokk Foster. I’m second in Command at Black Dawn Rebellion. Before you ask, no I never wanted to be in the situation I am today. Ever. I was taken in by the Academy because I had nowhere else to go as a kid. I was an orphan with uncontrollable abilities. A threat. A monster. The Academy became my home, my family. A sense of purpose which bled into hope. Hope that the world could change from its segregation from people who had abilities and didn’t. That we all could achieve peace, ensure peace. Not become soldiers. It was stripped away, which landed us in this war.
I’m a shapeshifter and time manipulator, a soldier who just wants to be a man, to attain a normal life. But what is normal anyway?
What is your role in the story?
That is a loaded question. It began and I’m sure will end with Memphis, Emory and I. And Adair. Memphis and I protected Emory, I sealed the deal when she found out I could manipulate time, I could save her, after… after what Adair started. I can’t go into detail about that, about what happened six years ago.
I can tell you since then, every day in this war has been a struggle. Adair is untouchable, stronger than any of us combined. Without finding Bryd, I don’t know what we would have done. My role in all of this, well to be honest, I help feed and gather supplies for the whole Rebellion. Alby and I are the only ones who can go out safely for long periods of time. Also, I’m not sure Memphis would agree, but really, I keep the Commander sane.
What is your favorite hobby?
Nyx and I spar on a regular basis, Memphis now and then in the Ring. But where I find my most peace is shifting and running in the woods for missions. It’s here where I can find some reprieve, where I can truly lose myself for hours.
What is the challenge you're trying to overcome in the story?
Well, in this story, my challenges seem to come one after the other. Without too much spoilers, just in case some of you aren’t up to date, I go from thinking that my decisions have been for the best, to seeing how my actions cause a ripple effect in the Rebellion. My best friends were in love with each other once, but now? They are different people. I go from wishing, yearning for love, to learning the truth, and getting lost in my darkness. You will have to read to more to find out what that means.
If you could make one wish, what would you wish for?
Wishes are wonderful and dangerous things. One wish? I wish for this daily. To go back to the time when my biggest problem was what Professor Iasan was saying to me. To spending our afternoons in the old courtyard of the Academy, hoping for the day when we could go back to the capital, Sarthaven, and just live our lives. A time before the battle of Kings, before the Stratton’s and the Fae’s started fighting. A time when I had my freedom.
