About The Book
Title: You Own Me

Author: Mary Catherine Gebhard

Genre: New Adult, Psychological Romance

“I’ll love you until you break my heart. I’ll give you the broken pieces of my heart as an offering to you, because you own it. Whole, shattered, alive, or dead; you own my heart no matter what condition it’s in. I’ll stay with you until you figure out how to feel. I’ll stay with you even if you never do.”

This is a story about happiness, and how it doesn’t simply happen because you fall in love.

Lennox is on the run from her ex-boyfriend. She had to drop everything, tell no one, and move to a new town, alone. She expected to be lonely, she expected to be afraid, but she never expected to meet a man named Vic who drove her crazy with lust and anger and called her “Lenny.” If it’s at all possible, Vic is more twisted than the man she ran away from.

She should ignore him, but they’re drawn to each other like magnets. Lennox ran from from Seattle to Santa Barbara to get away from violence, to create a new life, and to be something simple. Instead she’s found herself wrapped up in great friends and an epic love. This new life is the opposite of everything she wants, but it might just be everything she needs.

Today I'm interviewing Morgan Le Fay! Yes, she's the guest of honor, and I'm so nice to meet her. Morgan is the main character in "Henge", a YA fantasy novel by author Realm Lovejoy.

Can you tell us a little about yourself?

My name is Morgan le Fay and I’m sixteen years old and live in Cornwall. I’m able to use fire magic and am selected to join Arthur’s Round, an elite group of young magic users from which the new Maven (right hand to the king) will be chosen.

What is your role in the story?

I am the protagonist and also my own antagonist in some ways. Sometimes I feel like I’m fighting against myself more often than I’m fighting others. I am trying to become Maven throughout the first book, Henge.

What is your favorite hobby?

Practicing my fire magic. The best place to practice is by the seashore near my house in Tintagel.

What is the challenge you’re trying to overcome during the story?

There are many challenges aside from honing my magic skills for the Maven role. My rival Merlin is extremely talented with magic and seems to outshine me more often than I’d like. The current Maven, Mordred, seems to want me to fail for some reason. It may have something to do with my past. He executed my mother who used fire magic in self-defense when I was a child. That’s another thing that challenges me: the past and healing from it.

If you could make one wish, what would it be?

Becoming Maven so that I can create a world where magic users have fair rights.

About The Book

Title: Henge (Le Fay Series)

Author: Realm Lovejoy

Genre: YA Fantasy

Inspired by one of the greatest legends of all time…

Modern-day Camelot. Where knights no longer carry swords. Magic is dangerous. And those who seek control are not to be trusted.

Sixteen-year-old Morgan le Fay is a fire user. An ordinary girl with an extraordinary skill, she has the ability to create and command fire at will. Her dream is to become the Maven—the right hand of the future King Arthur. In the chance of a lifetime, Morgan is selected to join Arthur’s Round, an elite group of young magic users from which the new Maven will be chosen.

Along with the other fire, water, and wind users in Arthur’s Round, Morgan is rigorously trained and tested. The handsome Merlin, a brilliant water user, takes a particular interest in her. Is his friendship to be trusted, or is Merlin simply trying to win the position of Maven for himself? Among the many rivals Morgan faces is the current Maven, Mordred, who seems determined to see her fail.

But Morgan has a secret—years ago, her mother was executed for using fire magic, and Morgan’s desire for justice makes her more than ready to take on the challenge before her. Can she prevail in Camelot’s tests of survival and magic? Only time—and Morgan’s powerful fire—will tell.

Realm Lovejoy’s modern Arthurian series features one of literature’s most complicated and powerful female figures. Henge is the first book in the LE FAY series, and—like Morgan le Fay’s magic—it is sure to dazzle and amaze.

Book Excerpt from Nanovision

Book Excerpt

“This is our animal bay,” noted the CEO with a wave of her hand. “It’s in this area that we house a wide variety of animals for our medical research. We use these animals to extract DNA samples for analysis. Then, splicing their stem cells and combing them with nanites we are able to create medicines that will rebuild tissue, conquer diseases like cancer, eliminate infection, and possibly−though we’re not there yet, rebuild entire genetic sub-structures.”

“So why are all these animals injured?” asked Judy, “Was it done solely for product testing?

Judy’s observation stopped Ethyl in her tracks.

“No, no, heavens no!” exclaimed Ethyl in disbelief. “All the animals you see here were injured or sick long before arriving here. We have an arrangement with the humane society and veterinarians in the area to provide us with animals that need help. Every animal you see here was either sick, hurt, or abused, then abandoned or dropped off at the pound by their owners−most were ready to be put down. We rescued them. Here at NanoBytes we are about extending and improving the quality of life, so we provide them with sanctuary. This is a place where these animals can receive the attention they need along with the medical expertise necessary to cure them. From this relationship we are able to create drugs and medicines that can heal without invasive procedures. Here, let me show you.”

Ethyl took Judy to the cages near the end of the kennel. She stopped and pointed to one. Inside was a small kitten about four months old, sound asleep, with all four of its legs bandaged. Ethyl’s anger was evident as she related the story about the kitten to Judy.

“Some heartless, sick, son-of-a-bitch, if you’ll excuse my French, decided to torture this poor creature by cutting its legs off with pruning shears. It was left to die in a garbage can. Can you imagine? Someone found it and brought it to one of our vets, who stabilized its condition then brought it here where we immediately began nanite infusion−the only option available if this kitten was ever going to walk again.”

There was an extreme look of pride in Ethyl’s eyes as she explained what they did next.

“We extracted the kitten’s DNA and broke down the various genomes that relate to the growth of its extremities. Then, using coded stem cells fused with nanites and lizard DNA, which has the ability to rejuvenate cells, we began a series of injections and already we’re seeing results. It’s only been two weeks but each leg has grown a full quarter inch in size with no deformities or cellular degeneration. We’re very excited and hopeful that this little thing will regain the full use of all four legs.”

About The Book

Title: Nanovision

Author: Paul Harry

Genre: YA Science fiction / Fantasy

Synopsis:

Daniel Raye was only sixteen when he walked in on a mob hit against his father. Brutally beaten and left for dead, Daniel awakens in a hospital to find himself blind and with no memory of the hit. Placed in the FBI’s witness protection program, Daniel is relocated to Northern California where he’s given residence with a long, lost Aunt who runs a bio-tech firm called NanoBytes. Over time, Daniel rebuilds his life and adapts well to his newfound family, but as fate would have it, comes under the scrutiny of the mob once again–but not before his Aunt finds a cure for his blindness. Using a radical untested procedure incorporating robotic nanites spliced with the DNA from animals and insects, Daniel is injected with a serum that only a mad scientist could create.

Does it work?

Better than anyone imagined.

What would you do with x-ray vision?

Author Bio

As a young boy I cut my teeth on Marvel Comics, Edgar Rice Burrough’s serial novels,(John Carter & Tarzan)and classic movies like “The Day The Earth Stood Still.” I also spent many days reading classic science fiction works by authors such as Asimov, Heinlein, Clark, Silverberg, and Bradbury to name a few.

In school my favorite subjects were English and Theater Arts. It is the combination of all of this that led me into writing, especially screenplays. I love the visual medium of movies and television though too many movies today put special effects ahead of the story. I think the greatest compliment I’ve received about my writing is that people can see the visual images I am creating as I write.

NANOVISION is my latest novel and I think readers will have a lot of fun with it. In writing the novel I used my forty years of experience in the Las Vegas gaming industry as a background for the story. So for those of you who might ask—Are the casino scenes real? The answer is most definitely, Yes!

My other works on Amazon are: THE 5 MOONS OF TIIANA, and THE GARDEN, The Unauthorized Biography of Adam and Eve.

Book Review Waiting on Justin

Title: Waiting on Justin

Author:
Lucy H. Delaney

Genre: New Adult

Can everlasting love grow amidst never-ending despair?  Best friends Justin and Haylee learn early on that the answer is yes. Their parents would rather spend time drinking and partying than raising children, so the two rely on each other for the care and emotional support they need. Over time, Justin and Haylee become lovers despite the age difference between them.

Theirs is a forbidden romance that would destroy them both if discovered.

The older of the two, Justin is more than a little rough around the edges. He does everything he can to protect Haylee from as much abuse as possible, but when tragedy strikes there is nothing he can to do keep her from being taken into the foster system.

The system meant to save kids threatens to pull the two of them apart.

Haylee begs Justin to run away with her, but the powers-that-be force him into an inescapable corner.

Blaming Justin for the distance that separates them, Haylee shuts out everything and everyone from her past – including Justin. She tries to forget him. She tries to replace him. But he is always there. So is her own addiction. When it finally gets the best of her, she finds herself utterly alone.

She soon discovers what Justin has always known: Their love was worth waiting for.

Review: Both Justin and Haylee suffered from parental abuse, with their parents rather spending time partying and drinking than focusing on their kids, so the two of them rely on each other for the love and care they need. The two of them fall for each other, but the system threatens to pull them apart. When Haylee starts to blame Justin for the distance between them, she starts shutting out everyone and everything from her past, until she ends up all alone. It's a moving story, harsh at the start, but with a hopeful message. I enjoyed reading the book, the author has an interesting writing style, and the plot is engaging. I loved Justin - so supportive and caring.

Today I'm hosting a very special person on my blog, Rose Van Buren Leeds. She is one of the main character from "The Kiss of a Rose". Welcome!

Can you tell us a little about yourself?

Well, my name is Rose Van Buren Leeds.  I was born in the Territory of Colorado in 1861.  My parents were Dutch immigrants and they owned the local dry goods store.  My mother died of influenza when I was sixteen.  My father sold our store and we moved to the city of Boise in the Idaho Territory and started a new store.  I always wanted to marry a good man and have a large family.  My father wanted me to marry a rich man so I would always be taken care of and my children would never know hunger.  My father loved me and his intentions were good, but even the best intentions can lead to disaster.

What is your role in the story?

The Angel Gabriel raised me and said someone paid a great price for me to have a second chance at life.  In order to have that chance I need to persuade an ambitious politician to not run for the governor’s office.  The Angel told me I must show this man my story and use it to teach him where his ambitions will lead.

What is your favorite hobby?

I love to knit.  I made all sorts of scarfs and hats.  My father sold them in our store.

What is the challenge you’re trying to overcome during the story?

I have to convince a stranger to give up his dream while I’m haunting him and disrupting his life.

If you could make one wish, what would it be?

To see my father again.

A FUTURE PRESENT

Stephen Winship is headed straight for the governor’s chair. He has a brilliant career, solid allies, and a seemingly perfect girlfriend. But night after night he finds himself dreaming of a heavenly beauty, a luminous but long-dead girl. Like some altered Ghost of Christmas Past, she shows him her own tragic tale in order to “save him.” And he’s beginning to see Rose is risking her heart as much as baring her soul. Yet falling for her will cost him everything—and open him up to a happiness he never imagined.

Character Interview Telemachus & Homer Tour

1/15/2015

Foto
Today I'm interviewing Telemachus, the son of Odysseus, and one of the characters from YA fantasy novel "Telemachus & Homer". Welcome!

Can you tell us a little about yourself?
My name is Telemachus, but you probably have only heard my full name, Telemachus, Son of Odysseus.  I always felt pressure to be as good as my father, but he was at war and then lost at sea for the first two decades of my life, so I never had anyone to teach me how to be like him or who I was supposed to be.   I confess that growing up, I blamed him for choosing war over me, and when he first came home, although I desperately wanted him to return, I still resented him.

What is your role in the story?

Serendipitously, it is my choice to leave Ithaca that spares me and three of my friends from the Trojans' revenge, and gives Ithaca hope of surviving.

What is your favorite hobby?
Skipping stones.

What is the challenge you’re trying to overcome during the story?
A large part of story focuses on whether I will be able to come out from my father's shadow and if so, what kind of man I will become.

If you could make one wish, what would it be?

Fathers would not be forced to be away from their children.

Book Excerpt

Emily took Diane’s hand and followed her outside.

“Thanks, Doctor. I don’t want her to hear what’s coming next.”

“I understand.”

I gripped Jonathan’s hand and braced myself.

“Now, where were we?” Doctor Wilson said.

“Can she be treated, Doctor?” Jonathan asked again.

He shook his head. “This hormone is essential for her development. Without it, she’ll continue to deteriorate. I’m so sorry.”

“I don’t understand. There’s nothing at all you can do?” I asked, my mind in a whirl. This was much worse than anything I’d imagined over the past weeks. My whole body shook. I couldn’t absorb what he was telling us.

“No. It’s incredibly rare. There were a number of trials conducted a few years ago. Attempts were made to transplant from a living donor, a similar procedure to a bone-marrow transplant, but on each occasion the donor died within twenty-four hours. The trials were stopped.”

“What if I donated mine?” I said, grasping at any possibility, my mind racing.

“Even if you could donate yours, it wouldn’t work because, although you do still produce Proteum, you no longer produce the quantities needed for the development of a young girl. Anybody over the age of twenty-five won’t produce nearly enough.”

“Do the donors have to be a match, like with a bone marrow transplant?”

“No—but we’re getting way off track here, Mrs Lyons. The trials were stopped.”

“What about someone who’s already dead, or dying?”

“No. The Proteum needs to come from a living brain to be viable. I’m being purely hypothetical now as I know you’re trying to understand. If a potential donor is brain-dead, the Proteum won't be viable either.”

“So in other words, my daughter is going to die,” Jonathan said, in a flat, matter-of-fact voice.

“I’m afraid so, Mr Lyons—and I’m sorry.”

Hearing the words spoken out loud made my head spin. “How long?” I asked, my teeth chattered, I was shaking so much.

“I’m sorry?”

“How long until she dies? How long do we have?”

“It’s hard to say, as the symptoms vary from person to person. I suggest we do some more tests in two months. It will enable us to see how quickly she’s deteriorating and give us some idea of what to expect.”

I wanted to scream at him—for his pompous, no-nonsense answers—for his calm manner—for his rotten lying mouth. But instead I felt my shoulders sag. An empty hole in the very centre of my being grew larger and more painful by the second. This couldn’t be happening.
